Shark Finning activities cause the shark population in the waters off Sabah is getting smaller.

A Google search revealed that Malaysia is ranked among the top 10 countries in the world that contribute the depletion of sharks.

Over the past few years, the campaign with “Say No To Shark Fin Soup” from various countries support each other from the internet to discourage people from consuming the shark fin soup which is the biggest contributor of shark depletion. The campaign also seeks to remind people about the shark’s role in the ecosystem of the ocean.

This effort becomes more urgent when divers at Mabul Island of Sabah witnessed the killing of sharks.

The founder of the facebook group “Save the Shark from a Bowl of Soup” Kirk Keong Lee went to Mabul Island to see it for himself.

At there, he managed to see 6 or 7 sharks about 2 metres long on land and another 4 or 5 in the water that had already been finned.

The fisherman cut off the fin, head and teeth and dumped the body into the sea.

Kirk Keong Lee is supported by the huge online community to ban the shark finning.

One of the member of online community in Kota Kinabalu “Save the Shark from a Bowl of Soup”, named Aderick Chong met with Minister of Science, Tourism and Environment to lobby for a ban on sharks finning.

It was a small but significant step to push the campaign forward.

Chong seems swimming against the tide as there is nothing legislation to make sharks finning illegal.

He continues to knock on the doors of government agencies, Chinese Chambers, fisheries authorities and academics to lobby for sharks to be listed as protected animals.

Volunteer spirit of Nur Ayne

Nur Ayne who is starting her medical studies at University College London in October however had decided to sign up a gap year programme with Changing Worlds, a British based organization.

So she packed her bags and headed to Nakuru, Kenya for 6 months. In there, she taught the school children Mathematics and help out at a children’s home. Many students barred-footed, worn torn uniforms and carry tattered textbooks.

The primary education fee of Kenya is free but secondary fee charge from RM 150 to RM 250. It is a huge sum for family because they are only earning RM 4 and RM 5 daily. Therefore, many students drop out after primary school to work or help their family to plant vegetable or fruit trees.

The experience made Nur Ayne realized how fortunate she was to be Malaysian.

To help needy students continue their education, Nur Ayne initiated a project called Project Fearless.

This project now sponsored 5 poor students in Kenya. One of the students is a 16 years old girl whose mother suffering from liver cancer.

The project costs RM 4000 a year and her parents who are both accountants is going to provide the funds for the 1st year.

She knows that at this moment she cannot help all the poor students in Kenya but now she is starting her baby steps.

Good Friday

Today 22 April 2011 is the Good Friday

But today is not the public holiday in state Kedah....

In Sabah and Sarawak, Good Friday belongs to public holiday

Good Friday is observed on the Friday before Easter Sunday. On this day Christians commemorate the passion, or suffering, and death on the cross of the Lord, Jesus Christ.

Many Christians spend this day in fasting, prayer, repentance, and meditation on the agony and suffering of Christ on the cross.

Jimmy Choo????

Who is Jimmy Choo?

I c this name when i surfing the internet to find article.

However, I am not click the article of his name.

Yesterday, I see his again in the big advertisement of the newspaper...

Oh, he is the shoemaker which is born in Penang.......Now he come back to Malaysia to buy back the shares he had sold over a decade ago...Previously, Choo had sold all his shares to the Equinox Luxury Holdings Ltd for a handsome sum of £10 million in April 2001 after a fallout with his niece, Sandra Choi, when the latter chose to join forces with Tamara Mellon, the other partner to the Jimmy Choo empire.

His appearance in local radio stations also received tremendous response from the Malaysian public, with many calling in to voice their admiration and support.

Choo's return to Malaysia would herald a new era for the footwear industry in Malaysia, not to mention the spillover effects and impact of his presence in the fashion industry, as a whole.

Struggled with Technology

I read the personal story at the title of “my parents had long struggled with technology-they just needed the right teacher” of the Reader Digest.

It remembers me that my daddy also faces the same situation…..

One day of a couple years ago, my daddy told me that he wanted to learn to use the family computer since he realized that the computer world is full of magic. He wanted me to help him.

During the ‘computer lesson’, daddy likes to ask questions. Actually I had no idea about his questions. This went on several weeks. I tried to find inventive ways of explaining the basic functions of a computer.

Once in a while I lost my patience but eventually I taught my daddy how to e-mail, download pictures, open files, do word processing and save.

When my first semester at the UMS, my daddy and I was chatting in msn every week. Seeing my daddy’s word in the msn chat window got me through many stressful days.

I grateful to my daddy….

I had doubt my about letting my daddy explores the computer world but it was his determination and motivation….

His determination and motivation was love………….

Hachi

Hachi- is the name of a dog.
This is a movie of a dog-Hachi….
It is an American adaptation of a Japanese tale about a loyal dog named Hachi. This very special friend would accompany his master to the train station every day and return each afternoon to greet him after work. Sadly his master departs one day, passes away and never returns to the station. Hachi faithfully returns to the same spot at the station the very next day, and every day for the nine years to wait for his beloved master. During his daily visits, Hachi touches the lives of many who work near the town square. He teaches the local people love, compassion and above all unyielding loyalty. Today, a bronze statue of Hachi sits in his waiting spot outside the Shibuya station in Japan as a permanent reminder of his devotion and love.
At the end of this movie I was in tears. It is the sad touching movie for me…..
I think a moment after I watch Hachi. If the people are all like the Hachi faithful and loyal towards their jobs, life partner, family, won’t the world be a better place?
