Male Chauvinist

Tay Pa Pa and Mama

Yesterday, I read the Star newspaper and noticed the words of Male Chauvinist(大男人)in the interview of Joanne Yew (2007 Miss Astro International Beauty Pageant). Male chauvinist means the superiority attitude of the male species lingering in the mother earth.

Genuinely speaking, I never witness male chauvinist in my home. Tay Pa Pa will buy the breakfast for Mama. He would not hesitate going for shopping with Mama.  Sometimes he is willing to be the chef in home by preparing the lunch or dinner for us when Mama has a tired body. The best thing of him is he is the driver of Mama when Mama wishes to go around somewhere.

As I grew up when go out for study, I meet a variety of people with highly male chauvinist. A good example is my auntie’s husband (can be seen in my blogpost namely Take Me to Sibu Jaya) whereby auntie’s husband always proud to be chauvinist. I observe that he is having the upper hand in all the household and external affairs. My auntie only have to abide what her husband say. *Angry*

My friend that I know her in Universiti Malaysia Sabah also has the chauvinist boyfriend that will give his old cell phone to my friend when he is going to buy his favorite trendy cell phone. If I were my friend, I will throw the old cell phone to his face. I’m thinking using the high heels to beat him also a good idea.

The another example is my Indian friend’s father. According to my Indian friend, the male chauvinist is deep rooted in the Indian community. The father of my Indian friend will be finished working on 6pm everyday. Her mother will start preparing the dinner on 5pm everyday. Everyday her father able having the hot dinner. (Her mother used to tell me her husband don’t like the cold dinner as time I have a short stay in her home in Sungai Petani, Kedah). My friend as his daughter couldn’t do anything! Maybe she is accepted and get used to her father’s chauvinist style.

If someone ask me whether I can accept the male chauvinist, definitely the answer is NO. I grew up in the family which the male is not the boss and I feel prefer the guy without or little chauvinist. I don’t like male chauvinist because I’m a feminist! (大女人)

Jelly

I made lime flavor jelly few hours ago. Never try to make Jelly before, I was quite excited to do it! LOL. It was easy to made, just follow the instruction at the back of the Jelly box. Jelly brought back my fond memories about Ah Jiu.He often made Jelly for us (me and siblings). Sometimes, we would requested him to make the Jelly if he forgot to make Jelly long long time ago. He volunteered to make the Jelly for my most little youngest sister (Mickey) during the the day before the year end school holiday whereby all her friends will bring any foods to celebrate the beginning of the long school holiday. ^_^ Jelly can be considered as Ah Jiu's signature dish!

The instruction (that I learned from the back of the Jelly powder box)

1. Mix the jelly powder with 2 cups of water (200 ml)
2. Stir to boil until completely dissolved
3. Pour into moulds
4. Set in refrigerator for 30 minutes.

Lime flavor Jelly can be bought from any supermarket

Yay, I went to Secret Recipe again! I had blogged my previous visit to the Secret Recipe called Teatime in the last month in case you forgot. I decided to drop by Secret Recipe and had a piece of cake in the afternoon since I take the light lunch

Chocolate Banana Cake and Earl Grey Tea
The clearer picture of Chocolate Banana. According to the Secret Recipe assistant, Chocolate Banana is hardly sold in Secret Recipe (isn't consider once in a blue moon?)

Both of us raise our hand with "peace" sign

There were loads of banana in the slice of chocolate cream of the chocolate cake. I'm going to plan to bake a chocolate banana cake for next time (inspired by the Secret Recipe)

Cockles with Garlic and Chilli

Ah Jiu (the brother of my mummy) like to cook this kind of Chinese-style cockles. Nothing made me happier (when I’m in the younger age around 14-18 years old) than Ah Jiu saying seven simple words: “kids, we’re going to eat cockles tonight.” (Usually he buys the cockles from Ah Bai, one of the cold storage shop in Saratok town center). I like to eat cockles with this method compared to those cockles added to fried noodles or Laksa because I can enjoy cockles the most. Mummy will put a stakes of newspaper around the table (to ease her cleaning job) while we are eating cockles ravenously with our hands.

Buy from Giant supermarket in Bintang Plaza Miri
Wash the cockles to remove its sand. Then, boiled the water and throw in the pot of hot water with cockles
After few minutes, remove the hot water when the shells began to open.
Sprinkle with garlic, chilli and soy sauce to taste

SRS Nasi Lemak

My colleague, Kobe brought us to SRS, the Malay restaurant in Miri after he found that we hadn’t taken our dinner. (after attending the online tuition business talk). Few months in Miri, I never had the chances to try the nasi lemak in Miri (which was made by Malays). I just wanted to compare it with the Nasi  lemak in West Malaysia and my hometown. After trying, the first thought that came to my mind was it was not suit my taste and liking although it costs RM 7+++. The nasi lemak sold at the roadside which was RM 1 is delicious to eat. Kobe was too sweet, he took care of the bill.

Electronic invasion

Yes electronic has invaded my life. My working hours are spent in front of PC. (this kind life will going to end in May, 2013). I depend so much to the PC and we don’t what to do when the internet is down. Back home, I still spend a few hours in front of the ASUS laptop trying to “clear out minds”. I don’t have to concern or worry about the “face time” with the loved one or family members. (they don’t stay together with me) Honestly I admit that electronic has kept my boredom away.

FYI the electronic attachment that I use to have are PC (in the workplace) and laptop (in home) compared to the mobile phone.  I attached the PC and laptop as my body is to my arms. I discovered that I don’t have unhealthy attachment to my cell phone. I can leave my cellphone in home without bringing it. (My friends used to scold me when forgot to bring my cell phone since she might be contacted me in the case of emergency situation).I was out with my colleague almost during lunch and I realized that she will check her smartphone constantly while we’re supposed to be catching up each other. There is also moment when she is engrossed with her smartphone that we were not talking to each other. During the workplace meeting time, some of the colleagues (include my boss as well) will slide the screen of their smartphone while the smart phone starts beeping or ringing, churning out more messages and e-mails. The scenario is not unique. It became a trend on how human getting obsessed with their mobile phone and are not communicating face to face anymore. (I’m not sure whether I will kept on staring the smartphone in receiving an email or Facebook notification because I don’t have the smartphone)

Fortunately, smartphone has not robbed my valuable family time. Only PC has penetrated the family time. (Mickey which is the black sheep of Tay’s family glued her eyes in front of PC during her lunch and dinner time rather than interact with us). It’s common my mummy will scream us to ask for help instead of text us if she is in home. However, she likes to utilize the home phone to request us for doing some house chores when she was in Ah Jiu’s sundry shop (temporary helper if the workers are absent). Freedom ironically is just an illusion. There are actually plenty of opportunities to have family time in a day. In the morning, Tay Pa Pa will join us at the breakfast table and pick a topic to talk about along the way. In my home, I really enjoy and rediscover the art of conversation with my parents and siblings. I enjoy get to know each other again, tease each other. I make the family interaction more positive and interactive. It was very important in reconnecting with family members. (which are stayed in the different states in Malaysia). I can say that the dining table and living room in my home at Saratok are the place of joyful interaction. The most priority issue that I’m putting was my family first. I’m on my way to create many priceless family moments.

Straightening Hair Tutorial

Update on **15 April 2013**

The tutor aka my colleague, Miss Wong provided a straightening hair tutorial for me. Actually I was in shocked when she seemed so expert in straightening the hair in the latest stunning styles. She told me her secret formula of straightening and curling techniques were learned from Youtube. (salute her in putting effort in doing the research of straightening hairstyle). Most of the women were planted with beauty. I admitted that I was fallen in the group of lazy woman. There is a saying that "there is no ugly women in the world, it only has lazy woman" (天下间没有丑女人,只有懒女人)

The long tail of my hair. My tutor teased me and asked am I willing to cut the long style bob hair in the next time. Without further judgement and hesitation, I replied NO
