Jalan Putra, Alor Setar

Jalan Putra is located behind Star City Hotel and Fuller Hotel, Alor Setar

It is claimed to have good food stalls start operating from 4pm to 7pm everyday.

Shark fin soup, which just opened recently. I get 1 shark fin soup with abalone.
chicken curry bun, chicken floss bun, char siew bun could be find this stall. My friends comment that the ingredients of the bun are not in the right amount
Char kueh kak. It likes the ordinary char kueh kak that that I try in Georgetown, Penang.
Hong Kong style chee cheong fun
Ah Kok claypot rice has been operated more than 20 years based on my local friend, Shu Fang.
Chee Cheong Fun is filled with char siew and dried shrimps. It goes very well with the sweet sauce. So yummy
Like I mentions earlier, I has shark fin soup with abalone. The slice of abalone is in medium size. Overall, this soup is fragrance and flavorful. It's worth to try
I'm so upset with this claypot chicken rice. The smoky rice is not fragrance and then the bottom of the rice also not crispy.

P/S: Above are my personal opinions and please bear in mind the taste buds may vary others.

Lush Fresh Handmade Cosmetics: Mask of Magnaminty

When I visited Venetian Hotel Macau, I was attracted by the scents of the essential oils and soaps.

Based on the scents,  I discovered Lush, an England cosmetic company that used fresh and organic fruits and vegetables to produce their products.

As we walked in, the sales promoters kept on telling us all the Lush products were handmade. They all depended the staff for productions instead of machines.  It's true when I looked around and saw the staff who sliced and squeezed the mixed ingredients. The best quote described the staff was:

"Everything is made by them, by them"

As busy inspecting Lush's products, thus forgot to take picture of the Lush outlet's interior. Above picture I got from Google image that look similar with Macau Lush outlet
Bath bombs, the best seller of Lush. All of them were so colorful and eye catching.
Price was reasonable too
I only bought fresh peppermint face mask
To my surprise, the fresh face mask was best to be used before 1/2/2016. It had 3 months life span in order to maintain the freshness. First time I encountered the face mask had such "dateline"

This face mask pot made from 100% recycled plastics. Lush encouraged the customers to reuse it and bring it back to Lush outlets.

The customers were given 1 free face mask when bring 5 fresh mask pot back. Before this, the customers must clean the fresh mask pots and removed their labels.

Moreover, Lush also used 100% recycle paper as their carrier bags.

I can say that Lush was committed in protecting the natural environment. It's environmental concern really reflected in products packaging and recycling policies.

I applied green color fresh peppermint mask over the faces but avoiding the eyes. It's easier to apply as it's very dry. I left 10 minutes and then gently scrubbed off with warm water.  The fresh peppermint mask really effective in cleaning my dirt and blackheads. I always looked glow after using.

Ah Seng Instant Mee Hoon Kueh

Couple months ago, I had been bought few packets of Ah Seng Instant Mee Hoon Kueh from one of the undergraduate student UUM through Facebook.

I had always heard the Mee Hoon Kueh from Naruto (4th sister) recently and other degree friends few years ago. Unfortunately, I didn't had the opportunity to try them as difficult to get in Sarawak (i.e Saratok-my hometown) and Sabah (i.e Kota Kinabalu). Thus, I finally grabbed the opportunity when I saw them in Facebook.

 Each packet RM 3.00
The mee hoon kueh like pasta's shape and design. It came together with 2 packets powders:
fried anchovy and shallot.
During cooking, I put the fried anchovy powder. I wish to add some meats, shrimps and vegetables but I didn't kept such ingredients in my hostel room. After that, I garnished fried shallot for extra flavors when serving.

I like:

1. The anchovy soup base. It was very tasy, flavorful and satisfying
2. The texture of the mee hoon kueh. It was soft and springy.

Now, I became the fan of Mee Hoon Kueh

Read H.E.R.E for detail about Ah Seng Instant Mee Hoon Kueh. I just learned that Ah Seng not only produced instant Mee Hoon Kueh but also Penang White Curry Noodles.

6 Things I Love About Hong Kong (Never Mind the Complaints)

I visited Hong Kong on the early November of 2015 as indicated in the previous blog entries. I found 6 things that make me love Hong Kong. Below are the reasons that Hong Kong is awesome.

1) Convenient transportation

We explored all the Hong Kong attractions by using MTR and ferries. We don’t use the cab or taxi for a single time.  If use one word to describe Hong Kong public transportation, it is excellent. There are frequent buses, ferries, MTR to cover whole Hong Kong Island. It enhances the convenience and saves times for travelers like us. Other than that, having an Octopus Card for Hong Kong public transportation also easier to go around Hong Kong. We don’t need to carry heavy coins around Hong Kong. It’s incredible convenient. Octopus card considers as my own souvenir after Hong Kong trip.

2) Hong Kong buildings

Hong Kong buildings are very beautiful and gorgeous. The buildings (e.g clock tower, the court of final appeal, the legislative council) have British elements since it is the former British colonial. I feel like I’m in United Kingdom instead of Hong Kong. Moreover, Hong Kong buildings’ shapes and tallness also quite astonishing. For instance, Lippo Center’s octagon twin buildings, Bank of China Tower’s four triangle buildings.  In the night time, I enjoyed the beautiful night view created by these buildings at Victor Harbor promenade.

3) Local foods

I like the local delicacies of Hong Kong. One of the local delicacies of Hong Kong that I like is soup macaroni with sliced ham.  It always can be seen in the breakfast menu. I’m the big fan of soup broth meals because less oil and heat. It’s my first time experience soup macaroni.  All the while, I try usual macaroni tomatoes. Sometimes trying the new foods increases my excitement. After back from Hong Kong, I do miss the soup macaroni and making it but it tastes different.

I also found that Hong Kong snacks, noodles and Chinese barbecue are similar to Malaysia foods. Taking for example, egg waffles of Hong Kong same with Malaysia waffle. The difference is egg waffles Hong Kong is incredible fluffy and crispy compared Malaysia.  Another difference is the street vendors sell the egg waffles while in Malaysia the waffles stalls could be found in shopping malls. I even heard the grilling egg waffles Hong Kong using charcoal fired stone oven but I never heard in Malaysia.

4) Work dress of Hong Kong Ladies

I admire the work dress of Hong Kong working ladies. Although most of them wear the dark color work dresses but it is not mundane and nanny look like at all. In contrast, it demonstrates the professional and coolness. Their work dresses also adding with belt, cardigans to completely change the look of the work dress. Some working ladies use the scarf to make them look more feminine.   In conclusion, I have to say Hong Kong ladies inspire my future work fashion.

5) Toilets’ cleanliness

The public toilets in Hong Kong are very clean and fragrance all the times.  The cleaners are very efficient in cleaning the toilets. The designated cleaners clean the toilet once the users out from the toilets. Not only that, the toilets also supply the toilet papers. Unlike Malaysia, it’s very difficult to find the free toilet papers.

6) High Efficiency

Hong Kong international airport

Based on locals walking pattern, we understand Hong Kong is a fast pace of life place and the locals need to be high efficiency. One place that I experience Hong Kong’s efficiency is Hong Kong International Airport. First in my lifetime I’m called for boarding 10 minutes before the stipulated times. Everything is ready before the plane take off. It’s so different in Malaysia that practices “on-time” basis.

章记香港仔鱼蛋王

We tried 章记香港仔鱼蛋王as our breakfast.

Fried fish slices noodle soup HKD 35. I was so upset with the fish slices. It's just the fish cakes. Same thing went to the soup also. The soup less tasty.
Cuttlefish noodles HKD 32 . It tasted average.

Eat Together @ Mongkok

We had our dinner at Eat Together, Mongkok

Eat Together (大家食)
Featuring heavily in newspaper and magazines
It's signature was noodles. It had different types of noodles and soup broths to suit the demands of the locals. It was so different in Sarawak, Malaysia which only had few types of very simple noodles.
The vegetables was too oily. Both of us can't finished the whole plate
We're rice tong, thus we ordered braised Dong Po pork rice (东坡饭)
and Pork ribs rice (排骨饭). I liked the side vegetables. It tasted sweet and sour. Directly, it boosted up my appetite. Nevertheless, the Dong Po porks and pork ribs were overly sweet.

The customer service of this restaurant quite good and I'm very satisfied. The foods served within five minutes after ordering. Further, the staff also in good manner in taking our orders and always concerns our needs from times to times. It's worth to revisit for trying it's signature noodles.

Day 6 Discover Hong Kong: Madame Tussauds & The Peak

After that, we proceeded to Madame Tussauds and The Peak.

It was my second times visited Madame Tussauds wax museum after Bangkok.  Malaysia also had wax museum in I City, Shah Alam but not under Madame Tussauds' brand.

Read H.E.R.E for my visit to Bangkok Madame Tussauds wax museum

Read H.E.R.E about my visit to wax museum Malaysia

The Peak also known as Tai Ping Shan (太平山) by locals. It was the top of Hong Kong which means it offered the best views of Hong Kong. Most visitors took the tram to reach The Peak. Other than that, walking the trail and bus were other alternatives to get to The Peak.

The tram dropped us at The Peak Tower. The Peak Tower consisted Madame Tussauds Wax Museum, souvenir shops, Sky Terrace 428, restaurants, coffee shops, open square garden and so on.

From  MTR Central station, we walked around 20 minutes to The Peak tram station

Upon reached the top by tram, two things needed to visit. One was Madame Tussauds wax museum and the other Sky Terrace

1) Madame Tussauds Wax Museum

Not recognized this music group but still took photo with them. They're so photogenic
I managed to recognize Princess Diana only.
The wax figures really looked exactly like G.E.M Tang and Michelle Yeoh
Can't resist the temptation of Huang Xiao Ming, thus ask more photos from Naruto
This one too but his wife stood next to him, not dare to have more photo with him.
I just realized I leaned on the shoulder on each men wax figures. What happened to me? Doo Min Joon's hair looked horrible, totally ruined my mood to take second photo with him

Naruto commented me shouldn't smile when being caught by Hulk
Therefore, she demonstrated the above expression when being caught by Hulk
Again, she showed that coolness also the good weapon when taking photos besides smiling

Felt happy when seeing Hello Kitty but nothing to see actually
Naruto purposely took this Daraemon for Mickey (5th sister) because she was the big fan of Doraemon
With the handsome guy, Daniel Wu

Bruce Lee

Thank you Madame Tussauds in creating the well known wax museum

2) Sky Terrace 428

So foggy and very cold

2015 mine and Naruto at The Peak

The Peak like Fraser Hill Penang, Malaysia.  However, The Peak of Hong Kong extreme cold. The panorama views was foggy and can't see the Hong Kong island clearly. It added a sense of romantic and rewarded with lots of good photos. Further, when taking tram to reach the top, I also experienced the visual illusion. It was so interesting.
