Agnes Keith House

After lunch, we went to Agnes Keith House. Let me brief the history of Agnes Keith.

She is an American writer that lived in Sandakan with her English husband between the end of 1934 and the beginning of 1952.She had written 3 books during her experience in Sandakan. The first book was "Land Below the Land", second book was "Three Came Home", third book was "White Man Returns" The house where she lived had been restored and turned to museum by Department of Sabah Museum. The original house was destroyed in the war by Japanese and the present house was rebuilt when the Agnes Keith returns to Sandakan after war.

After Agnes Keith departure in 1952, the house was occupied by civil services officers until early 1990 when rumors of the house being haunted and frightened away all occupants. For some years the house was neglected until 21 century the Department of Sabah Museum decided to restored it.

The picture that taken outside the house-double stories timber house and its long french windows.

I'm quite enjoyed when I visited to Agnes Keith House. The atmosphere was very airy and comfortable because it's located in the top of the hill, which able to enjoy magnificent view of Sandakan harbour. Definitely, thanks to Department of Sabah Museum in maintaining the house very well.

This house reminds me the house of District Officer in Saratok, whereby being haunted and scare away the occupants. Until now it still neglect by Saratok District Department. Maybe it could be one of the Saratok's tourist attraction.

I'm sure Tay Pa Pa will visit Agnes Keith House when he steps in Sandakan. He's the history and historical artifacts lovers.
