Tapang Tree was the tallest one. Obviously outstanding than other trees.
Never in my life I
heard about Tapang tree until Papa Tay mentioned it few weeks ago when we
passed by Serian (a town located about 40
miles from Kuching, Sarawak) highway.
Papa Tay told me
and sisters it’s the holy tree for Iban ethnics (a type of indigenous people in Sarawak). Thus, Iban ethnics firmly
believed Tapang Tree cannot be cut down. Otherwise, the men
who cut down the trees would have their own retribution. For example, a son may
die.
Papa Tay even
explained his colleagues of Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR) wanted to cut down Tapang
Tree by using chain saw long long time ago but at the end the chain saw was
broken.
Further, the Tapang
Tree trunk was incredible slippery and even the squirrels can’t climb over it. Consequently,
the bee hives always built on the canopy of the Tapang Tree since not disturb
by anyone.
Amazing isn’t?
