Job Hunting Process

 **Updates**on 23 May 2012 (Part 1)

I am wake up on 4.30 am to get ready for the interview for Pegawai Pendidikan Pengajian Tinggi DH 41 in Wisma Satria BDC, Jalan Stutong, Kuching. I still sleepwalking when wake up such early. But what can I say because my elder uncle and his wife need to go to 3rd mile morning market to buy some chickens, pork, fish balls and so on for the kitchen usage. My elder uncle brings me to 3rd mile café to take my breakfast. I order “Kolok Mee” with “Cha Sau” oil. Actually, I wish to eat “Kueh Chap” the day before yesterday I had enjoy my hometown (Saratok)’s “Kueh Chap”.  We leave the café on 6.15 am. At 6.30 am, we reach at the Yong Fatt Restaurant because my elder uncle put down his wife in the restaurant before sending us to the Wisma Satria BDC. I am the earlier person to come to the Wisma Satria BDC because I arrive there on 6.45am. There is only security guard in there because most of the government servants not yet arrive.

The staffs are busy preparing for the interview registration

Marking scale

Around 8am, the director of the interview, Mr Gxxxxx Sxxxx required all the candidates to go inside the interview room at the same time. There are only 5 candidates involved in the interview which is from the architect, hotel and catering, city and province planning background. Apparently, he wants this interview to be the forum. “There is not enough for you guys only know about the knowledge of your course, you guy must know and understand the general knowledge.” We are Malaysians, we must concern what’s happening in Malaysia. said Mr Gxxxxx Sxxxx. When I hear him said like that, I think I might have not chance to win this interview battle. In university, I seldom have the chance to read the newspaper. I only search for assignment materials when can surf the internet in university (I’ll admit I reluctant to use the time to check my FB, blog, and romantic novel compared to read the news)

Board of interviewees

The director of the interview started the interview by asking the current issue in Malaysia.

1. What is the name of 7th Sultan Malaysia?
Hints:
This sultan is generous because he gives the RM1000 for the each primary school student that comes to his palace when those students said they do not have money. He advises them use the money wisely instead of buying handphone and gameboy.
2.  What is the result of the banci penduduk Malaysia 2010? How many population that Malaysia wish to achieve in Wawasan 2020?
3.  What is the mission of the Kementerian Pengajian Tinggi?
4. What is PIPP?
5. How many Malaysia governments spend for road and infrastructure maintenance?

I found that all the candidates cannot answer the current issues questions. This included me. Mr. Gxxxxx Sxxxxx: “You guys never read the newspaper?” All of us just silent. One of my rivals of hotel and catering just said that we need money to buy TV and newspaper in order to observe the current news every day. In order to have money, we need to award this job. You’re right but in my opinion it is not suitable to express this kind of reason to the interviewee. Mr Gxxxxx Sxxxx deny the answer given by the candidates. Every answers that are given by the candidates are wrong, himself’s answer is correct. I told my father and he just console me actually his mind has the right candidates and the right answer. I take my father’s console into my heart.

The second male interviewee has thrown the questions about the hotel and catering. The interview is the representative from the politeknik and kolej komuniti

1. How many kolej komuniti in Sarawak? which state in Sarawak?
2. What is flow management? please further explain?
3. What products that can be promoted to attract more people join the hotel industry?

Actually the second interviewee still ask two more questions but I seem already forget! I am actually confident to answer those questions about the hotel and catering. However, I really irritate the second interviewee that teased me when I give me the answer. The other two rivals of me (hotel and catering) are giving the general answer instead of powerful answer. And the second interviewee just said “OK”. This sucks….

The third interviewee asks the question about the architect and city and province planning. The questions are:

1. How many types of politeknik in Malaysia?
Hints: It has politeknik primer
2. How you incorporate principles Rukun Negara into the silibus of politeknik?
3. Which building in Malaysia is build by architect in Malaysia?
4. Which building that you like most?Further explain?
5. Do you think planning a city and province need to focus on EIA?
6. What are the steps in EIA?

When she asks about the 2nd question, I think my father was very smart in spot the interview because he just remind me need to revise the principles Rukun Negara. Now the Rukun Negara questions has been questioned. What a coincidence!

At 9am, the interview ended with the appreciation of those interviewees towards the candidates that are willing to attend the interview although the interview venue is far away from their working places and hometown. Once I step out from the interview room, I do not want to expect anything from this job…….be usual….
